Upper Barn Cottage

Local mountains

This is a great area for both road and mountain biking.  The local country lanes and tracks are well suited for cycling and National Cycle Route 8's section from Machynlleth to Dolgellau can be picked up about 8 miles away along quiet country lanes.

For those wanting a short ride the Mawddach Trail is a great option. Taking you along the old Ruabon to Barmouth railway line from the historic town of Dolgellau to the popular seaside town of Barmouth, you'll be wowed by the stunning views of the Mawddach estuary and Cadair Idris.

For mountain bikers, Forestry Commission Wales' mountain bike Mecca, Coed-y-Brenin forest is about 22 miles away and is home to an ever increasing network of fantastic handbuilt all weather singletrack and even a dual slalom course.

Closer by, Machynlleth offers waymarked routes of varying length and difficulty which take you straight from the centre of town into fantastic mountain and valley scenery. With everything from mixed road and valley trails to long forestry climbs, traversing mountain singletrack and sketchy slate ravine descents on the longer routes there's something for every level of rider. The Dyfi forest to the north of the town offers excellent forestry freeriding too.

National Cycle Network Route 8 also runs nearby.
